It's all happening right now - critical policy changes for Oakland kids are within our reach. An important opportunity to get involved is happening in under two weeks - join us.
We are in the midst of the "All Kids" campaign to ensure that decisions about curriculum, staffing, schedule, and budget are made by teachers, principals, and parents at school sites. Our partners include Oakland Community Organizations, 100 Black Men of the Bay Area, East Bay Asian Youth Center, and the Prescott-Joseph Center for Community Enhancement.
Recently, a coalition of community groups in Los Angeles was successful in winning policy changes for their school district with the Don't Hold Us Back campaign (more here and here). We've invited leaders of the LA movement to join us in Oakland so that we can learn from their success and give you a chance to ask questions and play a role in this watershed moment for Oakland students. On February 28th, we'll be joined by Vanessa Rodriguez, Associate Director of Alliance for a Better Community and others from LA.
We'll also hear from School Board Director David Kakishiba, who is chairing the OUSD Special Committee on School-Based Management and Budgeting, on how you can bring your voice and perspective to influence the policy changes being proposed in the next few months.
If you have questions about the proposed policies, this is your chance to get them answered. If you are ready to play your part, you'll find many options to do so at this event.
This event will be one of our most important of the spring - we need you there. RSVP now.
