"Get to Know GO" Breakfast -- These informal breakfast meetings
are open to the community to introduce GO's Beliefs and Visions and to
share opportunities to get involved. The
GTKG breakfasts are a wonderful opportunity to
learn about who we are, what we do, and our goals for 2010. If you want
to engage with other Oaklanders who are interested in ensuring that
every student has access to an excellent education in our city, please
join us! Breakfasts are held on the last Wednesday of every month at
school sites throughout the city.
If you would like us to sponsor a breakfast at your school site, please let us know!
GO General Meeting -- Held
every other month during the school year, GO General Membership
Meetings provide stakeholders with opportunities to: learn about issues
and decisions that are impacting the Oakland education community; engage
around these issues and provide valuable feedback; and continue
conversations around what ideas and actions will have the greatest
impact in ensuring that all Oakland students have access to an excellent
education. Food, childcare, and translation are provided
.
Speaker
Series -- Quarterly speaker series events introduce Oaklanders to
national and local education reform issues and leaders, and provide
opportunities for learning and action. Our first two events featured Tim
Daly, CEO of The New Teacher Project, and Don Shalvey, Senior Education
Program Officer at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
School
Work Days -- In partnership with school communities throughout the
city, GO organizes bi-annual "work days" to mobilize community
volunteers to support our schools. These events offer participants the
opportunity to meet others in their community who are passionate about
improving learning conditions and environments for our city's students.
